Pyrates Royale Announce 2011 East Coast Winter Doldrums Tour
So you didn't die in last weekend's “No-pocalypse 2010”. I know how disappointed you were when you climbed out of the remains of your parent's 1960s bomb shelter that you've been thinking of turning into a den; only to find out that not only were you not missed, but that only about 1/3rd of an inch of snow fell anyway. This on top of the crushing feeling of hatred of your family and self-loathing brought on by the fact that not a single one of those cheap bastards bothered to get you a new X-Box-360, OR the new Lexus that you have been subtly hinting about since well before the start of the Chrisolstichanakwonzaramadayofattonement alanxiety shopping season began. And although your boss gave you the extravagant gift of the use of his season tickets at Redskin Stadium for the rest of the year after you found out that he is banging the new gal in accounting and he's hoping that this will shut you up so that Shirleanne doesn't find out about it, the fact remains that THE REDSKINs SUCK. We know how you feel. Well, actually we don't. Our biggest problem is trying to figure out where to park the new Gulfstream V. Manassas is a bit of a trek, and Frederick is so low-brow. So what can you do??? Well, we've got just the thing to break you of your ennui: The 2011 Pyrates Royale Winter Doldrums Concert! January 8, 2011 8-10 p.m-ish. Galesville Memorial Hall, Main St., Galesville, MD Tickets: $15 advance (until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 8); $20 door information number: Janie 443-786-0463; alternative: Paul 301-467-3200 We'll be joined by Hangman's Faire, Calico Jenny, and local maritime poet Captain Larry McDonald for rollicking evening of song, verse, and pageantry. Use of Faire Clothing by you is strongly encouraged. Delicious pre-concert meals can be found at the the Pirates Cove restaurant at the end of Main Street. The West River Improvement Association will be selling beer, wine, sodas; and light desserts will also be available A portion of the proceeds will benefit WRIA, a local eco-organization. Be there or we'll kill you....Just kidding...ha...ha...ha | | Sunday, December 12th, 2010 | 10:44 pm [pyratelady]

Sick of Winter Already... So HEY! Let's Have a Concert!!! Another winter, another invasion of Galesville. Poor, poor Galesville...Announcing our Third Annual Non-Themed Winter Concert January 8, 2011 -- 8:00-10:00 PMMemorial Hall, 952 Main Street in Galesville, MD Tickets: $15/advance; $20/door To order tickets call 443-786-0463 or e-mail janiemeneely@gmail.com. As before, beer and wine and goodies will be on sale. This will be the third time the Pyrates overrun the sleepy town of Galesville, MD., nestled on the banks of the West River just south of Annapolis. And as ever, they'll leave you laughing, not shaking in your boots. This band of not-so-nefarious marauders offers an evening of maritime merriment and mayhem instead of the standard looting and burning. The Pyrates Royale, long-time favorites at the Maryland Renaissance Festival and Annapolis First Night, will bring their swashbuckling brand of music to the Galesville Memorial Hall for a not-quite First Night concert. "As pirates, we seldom get anywhere on time," says the flamboyant Captain Fletcher Moone, "so missing New Year's by a week or so is just part of who we are and what we do." And if you can't wait until 2011... and who can, really? Capt. Moone, Skivee, and Louis the Moor will be lending their voices to the annual Piratz for Kidz fundraising event at Piratz Tavern this Thursday, December 16. Me? I won't be there because I've decided that right before Christmas is the perfect time to have elective surgery. Yes, being a pirate is all fun and games 'til somebody loses a bunion... I will be too hopped-up on painkillers to be capable of much more than slurring verses of "All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Toes." I know some of you sickos would find that entertaining, but alas, it's highly doubtful that I'd be able to navigate the tiny and crowded Piratz Tavern dining room while on crutches. (And I can't get ahold of a decent litter anywhere.) Though it would make for quite a Tiny Tim impression. God bless us everyone. What was I saying? Oh yeah, Piratz for Kidz. There's a Facebook Page for that... Not really related, the deadline to vote in the Renaissance Festival Performers Awards approacheth. If you haven't already voted, here's a friendly reminder! | | Saturday, June 19th, 2010 | 6:18 pm [pyratelady]

Pirates Royal Name Change, 2010 Cruise, Spring Notes , and a death
L.J. Skivee Pirates Royal Press Relations Office Office of Public Affairs 1522 Radcliffe Highway Portsmouth, Shropshire A13B5N England. Phone: 11-442-555-1212 For Release March 32 Pirates Royal Band Announce Name Change, A Cruise Reminder And Other Spring News The Pirates Royal ™ band are changing their name to the Pirate Band Royal ™ to facilitate their exciting new position as the official band of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer ™ “Choices Have Consequences” ™ ” campaign. The new tag-line,”Give us a PBR, or we'll kill you ™ ” is expected to effect sales dramatically. Crucial to this agreement is the band's use of their considerable influence to have Pabst Blue Ribbon ™ beer supplied as the official beverage of the Maryland Renaissance Festival. The re-branding becomes effective immediately, but correspondence may still reflect the old name as the office runs through the last of our previous letterhead stock. And speaking of MDRF, we've heard that there are new exciting foods for this year's festival. Bacon-enrobed Porque Cordon Bleu and deep fried porridge, both available in the Ka-bob style. Yum ™! A reminder that there are just 200 openings left on our PBR May 2010 cruise. We are leaving from the Port of Houston on May 1, and will arrive in Sonora, Mexico in time for the Crisco de Mayo celebration. We sail on the Carnival ™ Cruise Ship, The Expense ™. It is the largest new ship in their line, so we expect even more of the experiences we had on our last voyage with them. The band has scheduled 8 concerts on a nautical theme, Kate Fairbanks will demonstrate making sand-angels, Mr. Skivey will lecture on Horticultural Humor. There will be drinking games on the fantail and the captain promises a murder. We should have a fun-filled week. Oh, there will also be a magician to entertain the children with balloon animals. Louis La More will be rejoining the group for the 2010 season while filming a reality show on the Discover Food ™ network. Guest Chef Contestants have one hour to concoct a gourmet meal from authentic supplies found in an 18th century sailing vessel. The meals are then submitted to the the crew for an extensive gastronomic review and appropriate response. The first week's challenge: Salt rub Equis Tikka Marsala avec Petit Scarabée biscuit. The show is tentatively titled “What the Hell is this Crap???” With Chef Louis ™ ”. On a sad note, our former associate, Baton Twirler Bob Trampler was killed in a training accident last week at his home in Griswald, Florida. Flaming batons appear to have ignited the authentic celluloid sequins on his signature "Liza Minelli at sea" outfit while he was preparing for a program with the Ships Company Shantynen. His partner of many years, Cindy Markle, noted," Bob practically invented the field of Shanty-Baton Interpretation over his 23 year career. No one could told the story of iron men and wooden ships with a simple flashing aluminium tube like that wonderful man could. His work with the Boarding Party, Pirate Band Royal(formerly the Pirates Royal, and before that the Pyrates Royale), and the Ships Company Shantymen shocked us all. At least he died a horrible death while doing what he loved. He would have wanted it that way." SC Shantyman Steve Winnock will step in to twirl with Cindy until a permanent replacement can be found. | | Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 | 12:17 pm [skivee]

Pyrates Royale Winter Doldrums Concert Returns!!!
We know that the recent holiday season and blizzard have made many of you grumpier than a bulldog with a mouth full of hornets. Being snowed in so you could enjoy an extra long unwanted visit from your least favorite cousins and their sniveling pack of mucus-covered brats, or the receipt of the predictable neutron-star-dense lugubrious inedible fruitcake from Auntie Hortense, or being forced to watch "It's A Wonderful Frank Capra Film" again, and again, and again simply can't improve one's outlook. How about: "It's A Wonder You Didn't Go All Jack Nicholson- The Shining- on the whole family". We feel the same way. So as a public service, we'll be reprising our Winter Doldrums Concert in the Memorial Hall of lovely Galesville, Maryland on January 9th. We will have exotic beers and light snacks, but you might also join us before the show in the nearby fancy restaurant. We expect to be in costume in order to startle the "normal" diners and you had better be, too. Now put that axe down and start ordering your tickets, m'kay? See the contact info below: Who: Pyrates Royale What: concert When: Saturday, January 9, 2010 8 p.m. Where: Memorial Hall, 952 Main Street, Galesville, MD Tickets: $15/advance; $20/door (to order tickets call 443-786-0463 or e-mail janiemeneely@gmail.com) Be sure to ask Janie about the restaurant details. It's a nice place. They even supply tableware. The Galesville Memorial Hall sits between the Post Office and the fire hall, on the left as you travel down the main drag into Galesville. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15/advance or $20/door. To order tickets call 443-786-0463 or e-mail janiemeneely@gmail.com. | | Monday, September 28th, 2009 | 2:26 pm [skivee]

The Story So Far
We are just past half-way into the 2009 season, so I figure it about time to do a post. We have enjoyed seeing most of our fans at our various shows at the Globe and White Hart. The weather has been not as stupid as last year...hot, but not unbearable; occasionally wet, but not "call out the National Guard" wet. We will continue to rotate our fiddlers throughout the run. All are gifted musicians. With luck Molly, Fifi, and Yasmine will grace us all at the same time at some point. This past weekend was MDRF's pirate invasion. Our friends The Crinsom Pirate, The Rambling Sailors,Letter of Marque, Pint and Dale, members of the Ships Company, and Louis the Moor all contributed in various dregees of officiality. There were about 17 pirates on stage yesterday for a massed Moron Tar Barnacle Choir version of "Mingualy". Some sweet harmonies resulted. The Pyrate camp always available near the White Hart for your viewing pleasure; but please remember to not poke or prod the pyrates. They can be vicious if provoked. I expect to post again in detail later in the season...perhaps by mid-November. | | Thursday, May 28th, 2009 | 10:39 pm [pyratelady]

*Finally* some Faire photos
A few months back I intended to post (with permission, of course) some photos of the Pyrates from the MD Renaissance Festival, but when I was experiencing DSL issues, that plan ended up the back burner. Since I really do need to need to organize my digital life, I got off of my butt and without further ado, here they are: Here's Skivee entertaining the crowd. Isn't he lover-ly folks? Official Partial Retraction of Pyrates Royale News and Notes
It now appears that little to none of the information about the MDRF moving to Gettysburg is correct; and it may well have just been some kind of misunderstanding. Where we heard,” The Md. Fair is going to move to Gettysburg next year”, what was actually said was, ”The National Park Service will be refurbishing Eisenhower’s Gettysburg retirement cottage and updating the electric map of the battle next year.” Please stop calling and e-mailing the office to check for more details. This would take valuable time away from the construction of the torture devices they are building to use on us. If you have cut and pasted to other websites, please retract your posts. We are terribly embarrassed. We pride ourselves on my journalistic standards. A quick scan back at previous PR Spring Notes will attest to a very consistent level of accuracy; but even we can be mislead by well-meaning speculation. That being said, all of the other information in the release is pretty-much 100% guaranteed. | | Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 | 12:23 am [pyratelady]

Cruise Prices reduced
I chatted with our travel agent a few days ago and he tells me that NCL has further reduced rates for our week long 2009 Bermuda cruise. Current rates based on double occupancy are $1400 for an inside cabin, with a $25 ship purchase credit per passenger, and $1600 with a $50 ship purchase credit per passenger. We are encouraging folks to get cabins early so that the cruise line doesn't reallocate them to other groups, since the boat is selling out quickly.
